How To Guide: 3 great ways to improve your Mailchimp skills

Many of the How To Guides we produce are Marketing led because that’s what we know you like to keep ahead of and sometimes need help with. This week is all about the Mailchimp platform – our favourite way to email subscribers because of its brilliant list of features and the fact that it’s free for the first 2000 subscribers you have – ideal for small businesses.

Being able to regularly email a list of people who have already shown an interest in your business and who are already waiting to hear from you is gold dust in a small business. You don’t need a list of hundreds or thousands of emails to make a real impact in your business. You simply need to build a loyal audience who are going to buy from you and share you with their friends.

Some of you will be using Mailchimp already and some of you may have been meaning to set up a subscriber list. You may have found that you don’t get the response you hoped for or you may not be sending out emails at all. Here are a few ways to improve your emailing or Mailchimp skills that can make a huge difference to yours success.

  • You need to know why you want to email people. This sounds daft but in fact it is all too easy to use your emails as a way of selling more stuff to your readers. This is not the purpose of your email. The purpose of your email is to delight, inform, help or solve. Work out what you are doing for your subscriber.
  • Create a really valuable welcome email using automation. So that your subscriber is reminded immediately why they have subscribed to your email and why they love you give them something extra and impressive. This could be as simple as a thank you voucher or top tips to solve their primary problem or access to a snippet of your business before they buy in full. How will you thank your subscriber for signing up?
  • Consider using Mailchimp landing pages to up your online game. A landing page is like a supplementary website page that has specific information that your reader needs. You can use a landing page to sell a specific service or promote a particular event or product. Once your reader lands on the page, you can then use a range of automations (for free!!) to take them on the journey that you want them to enjoy – a great way to introduce new people to your business.
